FIRE SAFETY PARAMOUNT AT E. K. KANOO

E K Kanoo always give priority to fire safety and make certain that staff have the proper training to deal with a fire in an emergency situation with live demonstrations on how to use portable fire extinguishers in case a fire breaks out in the workplace taking place over 2 days of training.

E K Kanoo held its half yearly fire fighting demonstration using portable fire extinguishers at its 19 major premises on 14th and 15th August 2007. The drill was conducted by EKKs safety and security department as part of the company’s drive to provide an educational programme to familiarise all employees with the general principles of the fire extinguishers and the hazards involved with incipient stage of fire fighting.

This demonstration also covered how and when to use a fire extinguisher in the event of an emergency, hands-on training with the fire extinguishers and learning about the different types of fire extinguishers (which extinguishers are designed for what fire). The safe use of an appropriate fire extinguisher to control a fire in its early stages can also significantly reduce the risk to other people in the premises; by allowing people to assist fight the fire in the correct manner.

More than 750 employees of E K Kanoo actively participated in the two days of demonstrations. All premises of E K Kanoo are fully equipped with adequate extinguishers, fire detection and warning systems, emergency escape routes, fire signs and notices, automatic suppression systems, sprinklers and hose reels. A dedicated fire safety team ensure its regular checks and defects are rectified instantly. Periodic servicing and maintenance are carried out by competent service engineers.
Abiding by the regulations of the Interior Ministry’s General Directorate of Civil defence, E K Kanoo conducts fire evacuation drills at all their facilities and premises, regularly throughout the year.

The half-yearly fire fighting demonstration is just one of the ways in which they educate their staff on the ways to do so. The training was conducted 14th and 15th August on the various E K Kanoo premises, where the entire staff was given live demonstrations on how to use portable fire extinguishers in case a fire breaks out at the workplace.
